Powering the system away from an outlet
Everything in a Lynx system runs on ordinary wall power, and nothing Lynx sells draws much. Away from an outlet, bring the power with you.
How to fix it
Where the power comes from
- With an outlet nearby, plug in as usual.
- With no outlet, use a generator or a portable battery power station. A power station is quiet and burns no fuel.
- Size it for how long your events run and how much equipment you power. For a full meet, support suggests a power station of more than 2000 Wh.
Protect the timing gear
- Plug the cameras' switch or injectors, and the timing computer, into a UPS (battery backup), and plug the UPS into your power source. A brief power drop then won't shut down a camera mid-race.
- An ordinary store-bought UPS is enough. Its battery may last a race, not a whole meet, so it doesn't replace the generator or power station.
What powers what
- Vision-series and IdentiLynx cameras get their power over the network cable, from a PoE+ switch or the injector that came with the camera. The switch or injector is what needs the outlet: see Camera won't power from the switch.
- The RadioLynx transmitter runs on its own rechargeable battery, for months of normal use. Charge it fully before the meet.
