Raceclock by Electro-Numerics

If the Raceclock shows nothing or the wrong time, check that it's in "rd" mode and the serial cable is seated, then check the scoreboard entry in FinishLynx. The same entry is the whole setup for a new Raceclock.

How to fix it

Check the clock and the cable

  1. On the display, use the keypad on the side to put it in "rd" mode.
  2. Check that the serial cable is securely connected at both ends.

Check or create the scoreboard entry

  1. Turn on the power switch on the Raceclock and select rd mode.
  2. In FinishLynx, go to Scoreboard | Options. Select the Raceclock entry if it's there; otherwise click New.
  3. Set Script to Electro-LED.lss and Code Set to Single Byte.
  4. Set Serial Port to the port the clock is connected to.
    • It may not be COM1: check Device Manager for a USB-to-serial adapter, or choose <Camera Name> (C-Box) for the Connection Box or <Camera Name> (Body) for the camera's SERIAL port.
  5. Set Baud 9600, Data Bits 8, Parity None, Stop Bits 1.0.
  6. Set Running Time to Normal, with Pause Time 0.0 and Offset 0.000.
  7. Set Results to Auto with Always send place checked. Check Paging, set Size to 1 (the clock shows one line) and Time to 5.0.
    • A smaller Time moves through the results faster.
  8. Click OK, then close and reopen FinishLynx and check that the Status says Running.
    • Not Loaded: close and reopen FinishLynx again.
    • Not Running: the Serial Port is set to none. Choose the port the clock is plugged into, for example Camera 1 (C-Box), click OK and restart FinishLynx.
  9. Test with Scoreboard | Show Time of Day, and turn it off again before your first event.

What you need

  • The Raceclock, its power cord and a serial cable from the clock to the FinishLynx computer, the Connection Box or the camera. Electro-Numerics' 50-foot accessory cable (P/N CA45-50) can be used.
  • On a laptop without a serial port, a USB-to-serial adapter.
  • No extra software. The script ships with FinishLynx, and the Electro-Numerics scripts page has Electro-led.lss if yours is missing.
  • Full FinishLynx. FinishLynx LITE doesn't send scoreboard output. See Known limitations.

How it behaves

  • The running time shows from the start. The clock switches to results as soon as the first athlete is evaluated in the open event, then pages through them one at a time.
  • To show running time only, set Results to Off.

If the Status is Running and the clock still shows nothing, see Scoreboard stopped working. For a clock that won't power on or charge, see Race clock dead or won't charge.
