Lost serial numbers

Your FinishLynx serial and each plug-in serial are separate 12-character codes, and none of them is the camera's serial number on the label under the camera. Check the two places they are usually kept first. If they are gone, Lynx looks up your account and re-sends them.

How to fix it

Look on any computer that still opens FinishLynx

  1. Open FinishLynx and go to Help | About.
  2. The window lists the FinishLynx serial and every installed plug-in with its own serial. Write them all down, or take a screenshot.
  3. Keep the screenshot with your meet files. It is the fastest way back if a computer fails.

Check the serial sheet that came with the system

  1. Look for the serial-number sheet, or open START.html on the Lynx flash drive that shipped with the package.
  2. If the file won't open or the serial page is blank, ask Lynx to re-send them.

Ask Lynx to re-send them

  • Use the Contact Support button below. Support looks up the account and emails the FinishLynx and plug-in serials with the download links.
  • Serials are only re-sent to the organization that bought the system, so write from your school, club or company address where you can.
  • If a plug-in serial isn't found on your account, it may have been bought under another name, for example a different school in the same district that shares the system.

Reinstall with the serials

  1. Download FinishLynx from the Software page and run the installer. When asked for a serial, enter the FinishLynx serial (name and company are optional).
  2. Install each plug-in with its own installer from the Plugins section, into the same C:\Lynx folder as FinishLynx. Each installer asks for that plug-in's serial: use the serial on the matching row of the email.
    • Plug-in serials belong to one FinishLynx serial: their first six digits match it. Install FinishLynx with the serial the plug-ins belong to.
  3. Type serials carefully: check the zero against the letter O, and the one against the letter I. If a serial is refused, see Serial number not accepted.
  4. After a fresh install, camera settings start at their defaults, so set the start sensor, capture method and scoreboard entries again.

Good to know

  • The Automatic Capture plug-in is the same thing as Auto Capture Mode. Its serial may be labeled "Virtual Photo Beam Unit" on an older sheet.
  • Network COM Port is built into FinishLynx 13.00 and later (Help | About shows it as Internal), so a new install needs no serial for it.
  • Camera upgrades such as LuxBoost, VDM and HighRes live in the camera, not the computer, so they need no code on a new computer. Check Camera Settings, Parameters tab, for the LuxBoost levels.
  • Remote Control has been built in since FinishLynx 10.11. If FinishLynx keeps asking for a Remote Control serial, see Keeps asking for a serial number.

"What does our organization own?"

  • If you inherited a system, or came back to one that sat idle, ask Lynx with the button below. Support checks the account and replies with the equipment list and the serials that go with it.
  • Find your camera model and serial shows where the labels are, and Start here takes a new owner through the rest in order.

FieldLynx Lite and LaserLynx Pro (activation code)

These are licensed per computer. On first launch the program shows an activation code.

  1. Ask Lynx for a serial for that computer, with the button below. Each computer needs its own code.
  2. Enter the serial support sends to activate it.
  3. The FieldLynx Lite installer isn't on the website (it bundles the Scoreboard, Wind and Laser plug-ins), so ask for it in the same request. See Install or move to a new computer.
