RadioLynx works most of the time but misses some starts. What do I check?

Recover the race with Repeat first. Then check the antennas, cable an electronic gun to the transmitter instead of using a sound sensor, tighten the input cable, run the paperclip test and charge the transmitter.

Press Repeat on the transmitter before the next start: it resends the last start with its original time. Then work through these checks:

  1. Antennas. Check the right antennas are screwed on fully and that the transmitter's antenna mount doesn't spin.
  2. Electronic gun: don't use the sound sensor. A sound sensor in front of the gun's speaker is unreliable. Connect the gun to the transmitter with the transmitter input cable instead (for a Gill Halo, Gill's adapter cable), and secure the plug so it can't fall out.
  3. Transmitter input cable. Slide the black and green covers up the cable and tighten the small screws that hold the wires in the banana plugs. Avoid taping the cable tightly to a tripod.
  4. Paperclip test. If the transmitter and cable pass but blowing into or tapping the sensor gives no start, replace the start sensor. A sensor that got wet needs a few days to a week to dry; don't take it apart.
  5. Battery. Three beeps at power-on or after a signal mean the battery is low; recharge it fully before the meet.
  6. Internal RadioLynx camera. Connect an external receiver to the serial port on the camera back and set Port to Camera Back on the RadioLynx tab. If the misses stop, the internal receiver is the likely cause and the camera and transmitter should go in for repair together.
  7. Interference. Look for walkie-talkies, wireless TV cameras or other radios near the start or the camera, and try another frequency.
